LVR Presents Awards

At their annual Awards & Recognition Ceremony on June 10, 2015, Literacy Volunteers of Rochester presented its advocates, tutors, and students with awards for service and numerous accomplishments.Nicole Viggiano LVR award

Bob Mahar, Executive Director of LVR, presented Nicole Viggiano, with a Friend of Literacy Award. Nicole is the Director of the Office of Community Education, Greece Central School District and Coordinator of its Literacy Zone.

Among the awardees were State Senator Joe Robach who received the President’s Literacy Award and Doris Leve, (LVR President from 1984-1988) who with the late Nan Oster (LVR President from 1970-73) received the 2015 Ruth J. Colvin Founders Award.

NYSED/ACCES Revises Assessment Policy

NYSED/ACCES has addressed various aspects of its assessment policy in order to provide guidance to local programs while adhering to Federal assessment requirements. OCTAE Releases Report to Transform Adult Learning

The Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education (OCTAE) released a report, Making Skills Everyone's Business: A Call to Transform Adult Learning in the United States.

The report represents OCTAE’s vision for transforming adult learning in the United States. It outlines key strategies that can be adopted by communities, public and private entities, and government agencies as they develop a collective approach to improve the skills deficit. 

The release of OCTAE’s report is the first step in an overall action plan, which will include regional events.

TASC Online Interactive Demo Released

TASC test takers can now experience new technology-enhanced item types by using an interactive demo. The demo offers practice items just like those examinees will find on the new D, E, and F TASC test forms. Designed to familiarize students with technology-enhanced items, this new demo will provide examinees with a simulated online test taking experience.

USCIS Grant Is Available Now


U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is now accepting applications for the Citizenship and Integration Grant Program, a competitive grant opportunity for organizations that prepare permanent residents for naturalization and promote civic integration through increased knowledge of English, U.S. history and civics. The program will provide up to $10 million in grants for citizenship preparation programs in communities across the country. Applications are due by May 15.
