Finger Lakes Teacher Awarded Mini-Grant

Mini-Grant KLeenayNYSED and CUNY awarded Kate Leenay, a teacher at Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES, a mini-grant for her proposal Inquiry Based Mathematics in the ESOL Classroom. At the NYSED/CUNY Teacher Leader Institute on March 10-11, 2016, Kate demonstrated how  inquiry based learning can be used to not only develop interest in the subject of math, but also how to incorporate diverse and complex language acquisition into practical lessons. Kate also provided example lesson copies to each participant and online access to the entire “ESOL Toolkit in Mathematics.”

 

NYSED and CUNY offered mini-grants to NYSED Teacher Leaders to support work to further develop New York State HSE teaching and professional development. Projects built on, expanded, contributed to, or customized some aspect of the CUNY Teacher Leader training and/or CUNY HSE Curriculum Framework for other teachers or teacher leaders. Grantees presented their work at theTeacher Leader Institute in March, 2016. Grantees also created project reports to be collected as a resource for statewide use.
