LDA Life and Learning Services’ Fall 2012 Workshop Series — Teaching Adults with ADHD Traits

In these practical, interactive sessions, you will learn more about ADD/ADHD and what you can do to help adult learners (diagnosed or not) who struggle to compensate for the impact of  this disorder on their daily lives, at home, at work and at school!  Format will include direct instruction, simulations, case studies, experiential learning and Q & A.

Session I - Background and Characteristics of Adults with ADHD Traits

In this workshop Dr. Ellen Arnold will explore ADD and ADHD and how it manifests in adults. What are the diagnostic process, cause and duration of ADHD. ADHD and its relationship to executive functioning (time management, planning, organization, attention, etc.).
In addition, Dr. Arnold will discuss typical characteristics related to:
• Ttime management
• Attention
• Reading
• Test taking

Session II - Practical Strategies to Assist the Adult Learner with ADHD Traits

You probably have at least one adult learner in your class who has been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD and a few others who exhibit many of the characteristics. Would you like to know some specific strategies that you can use in class so that these students can be successful?
Dr. Ellen Arnold will explore the following:
• How movement helps individuals with ADHD
• Impact of structure and environment on learning
• When does attention work?
• Improving focus when reading or test taking
• Keyboarding vs. Handwriting
• Time limits
• Strength based interventions
• Helpful resources
